Baked Chicken Breasts

Tender and juicy breaded chicken stuffed with cheese and ham, then covered with extra breadcrumbs! An uncomplicated and delicious recipe!

Baked Chicken Breasts

This recipe came from a friend who watched our kids before they started school so I've had this recipe for about 25 years. I love great chicken recipes and this is an easy Chicken Cordon Bleu recipe with the same great flavor, but instead of stuffing the chicken, you wrap the breaded chicken with ham and cheese (and there is no dijon sauce).

What You Need

Ingredient Needed

  • Bread Crumbs, plain

  • Parmesan Cheese

  • Parsley Flakes

  • Garlic Powder

  • Onion Powder

  • Chicken Breast, skinless and boneless

  • Ham, deli or thinly sliced left over ham

  • Cheese - Swiss or Provolone

  • Butter, melted

Tips for Making Baked Chicken Breasts

  • Not a fan of Swiss cheese, try Provolone or American Cheese

  • If you want to spice it up a bit, add red pepper flakes

  • If you have larger chicken breasts, use a sharp knife to cut them in half and if necessary, use a meat mallet to even out the chicken breast; then begin with Step 2.

  • When dipping the chicken, remember keep one hand for the wet dips and the other hand for dry dips

How to Make Baked Chicken Breasts

Grab all the ingredients and it comes together quickly and bakes for about 45 minutes.

Step 1: Preheat oven to 350°F and prepare a 8x8-inch pan with non-stick cooking spray. Melt butter in microwaveable bowl large enough to dip the chicken and set aside. In a small bowl, shallow dish, or plate that is large enough to lay the chicken, combine stuffing, Parmesan cheese, parsley flakes, garlic powder and onion powder (another great way is to combine ingredients in a ziploc bag and coat the chicken in the bag).

Step 2: Dip both sides of a piece of chicken in the melted butter, then into the breadcrumb mixture.  Wrap the breaded chicken with a piece of cheese and slice of ham and place in prepared baking dish. Top with the remaining bread crumb mixture. Cover and bake at 350°F for 25 minutes, then uncover and bake an additional 15-20 minutes. With a meat thermometer, check to make sure the internal temperature of the chicken is at least 165°F and the bread crumbs will be a golden brown.

1)chicken dipped in butter then bread crumb mixture; 2) wrap with cheese; 3) wrap with ham; and 4) place in baking dish!
