Chipped Beef Dip Recipe

Updated: Mar 8

This easy and delicious Chipped Beef Dip is full of cream cheese and chipped beef and is the perfect appetizer for your next party or game day tailgate.

I love classic appetizer recipes and this easy recipe came from a dear friend that I worked with for years! I've had this recipe for so long, you could consider it an old-school party appetizer! It comes together quickly with only a handful of ingredients! It pairs perfectly with your favorite crackers, bagel chips, corn chips, fresh vegetables or try it in a bread bowl!  It is the perfect party snack because it is really delicious and it is a family favorite in our house!

If you're thinking to yourself, this would make a good cheese ball, check out my Chipped Beef Cheese Ball with Horseradish

What You Need

  • Dried Beef or Buddig Beef

  • Sour Cream

  • Cream Cheese

  • Green Onion

Tips for Making Chipped Beef Dip

  • What kind of beef? There are two different types of beef you can use in this dip. First is the dried beef which is located in the the canned meat section of the grocery store.  The second is Chipped Beef or just Beef, which is the Buddig brand, located in the deli section of your grocery stores! Either works very well in this dip but I do prefer the Buddig brand.

  • Allow your cream cheese to get to room temperature; it will make the blending of the ingredients much easier and gives the cold dip a creamy texture

  • Chop the beef and green onion in to thin slices for easy dipping with your cracker

  • Either full-fat cream cheese or 1/3 fat cream cheese works well

How to Make Chipped Beef Dip

This tasty appetizer comes together in a matter of minutes, but give it time in the refrigerator to allow all of the flavors to come together. I suggest a minimum of two hours, but overnight is best!

Step 1:  Remove one block of cream cheese from refrigerator and allow it to get to room temperature. While waiting on the cream cheese, chop the green onion and beef into small pieces and set aside.

Step 2:  Once the cream cheese is at room temperature, in a medium mixing bowl combine softened cream cheese and sour cream and mix until smooth. Add in the green onions and chipped beef and mix until fully incorporated. Cover and chill for at least two hours or overnight. This creamy dip is an easy appetizer that you can have ready in about 15 minutes.

How to Store Chipped Beef Dip

This perfect dip gets better the longer it is in the refrigerator. Store the dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Be sure to give the dip a good stir, mixing up all those good flavors, before dipping!

You will love this delicious dip. It is Forkin' Good!
