Autumn is approaching in Iowa and my attention is on pumpkin recipes, and here is a fantastic one! These mouthwatering and moist muffins made with pumpkin, pumpkin spice, and chocolate are a delicious breakfast or snack and can be prepared in approximately an hour! This recipe was shared by a friend I worked with and it was a favorite in her family. The cocoa powder in the chocolate batter provides a rich taste, while the chocolate chips add a nice crunch and extra chocolate flavor.
What You Need
Brown Sugar
Large Eggs
Sour Cream
Pumpkin Puree
Vegetable or Canola Oil
Vanilla Extract
All Purpose Flour
Cocoa Powder
Pumpkin Pie Spice
Baking Soda
Baking Powder
Salt
Chocolate Chips
Tips for Making Chocolate Pumpkin Muffins
Use your favorite chocolate chips like semi-sweet, milk chocolate or dark chocolate chips
Add extra chocolate chips, if desired
Pumpkin puree may be found in the baking aisle of most grocery store

How to Make Chocolate Pumpkin Muffins
These easy to make muffins come together quickly! You will need a muffin pan, muffin paper liners and a large bowl to make this delicious recipe!
Step 1: Heat oven temperature to 350°F and line a 12 cup muffin tin with liners or spray with non-stick cooking spray and set aside. In a large bowl or in the bowl of a stand mixer with a paddle attachment, combine the dry ingredients (flour, cocoa powder, pumpkin pie spice, baking soda, baking powder, and salt) and mix together. Add brown sugar and mix.

Step 2: Using a spoon, make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the wet ingredients (pumpkin puree, eggs, vegetable oil, sour cream and vanilla extract). Mix until batter is just blended - do not over mix. Add the 3/4 cup chocolate chips and fold in to the batter.
Step 3: Divide the muffin batter between 12 muffin cups. Divide the remaining 1/4 cup chocolate chips over the top of each muffin. Bake time is 18-22 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool 5 minutes in muffin tin, then move to a wire rack to cool completely.
How to Store Chocolate Pumpkin Muffins
Store these delicious muffins in an airtight container at room temperature for 3 days. The muffins may also be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or frozen for up to 30 days.
When the chocolate lovers look at all the chocolate chips on top of the muffins you might think they should be called chocolate chip pumpkin muffins! Regardless of the name, they are Forkin' Good!
