Creamed Turkey is an easy weeknight meal that can be made with leftover turkey or chicken. It is comfort food that is warm, filling and oh so delicious!
My sister from another mister grew up eating this delicious Creamed Turkey and she has been making her Mom's Creamed Turkey for her kids for many years. She shared the recipe with me and I made it for my youngest daughter and she absolutely loved it (and so did I!). It is a tradition in my sister from another mister's family to have Creamed Turkey on the Sunday after Thanksgiving, using up the left over turkey. I can say with a lot of confidence that this will certainly become a tradition with my family as well. I love that my sister from another mister shares all of her favorites with me and allows me to share with you - she is the best!

How To Make Creamed Turkey
Once you've got the vegetables cooked, add the remaining ingredients as directed and it's ready in minutes!
Step 1: Dice the celery and green pepper into small pieces. Add to a large pan with the butter and cook until the vegetables are transparent, around 2-4 minutes.
Step 2: Add the turkey, soup and milk and cook until tender and the mixture is bubbly (8-10 minutes).
I chose to serve Creamed Turkey over mashed potatoes, but my sister from another mister shared that it is just as good over warm biscuits with butter. You may also substitute the turkey with rotisserie chicken. Double the recipe if you're serving more than 4.
I shouldn't assume everyone knows how to make Mashed Potatoes so here is my quick and easy version:
6 russet potatoes, peeled and quartered
2/3 cup milk
8 tablespoons (1 stick) of butter
Salt and Pepper to taste
Place the potatoes in a large pan and fill with enough water to completely cover the potatoes. Cook on high heat until boiling, then reduce to medium heat and cook for 20 minutes or until tender (I use a fork to test tenderness). Drain the potatoes well ensuring there is no water left on the potatoes. I mix my potatoes in the pan I cooked them in, but you can also transfer them to a bowl for mixing. Add the butter and start mixing on low speed. Slowly add the milk, salt and pepper and continue mixing until fully combined and fluffy. If the potatoes seem too thick, more milk may be added 1 tablespoon at a time. My mother-in-law always used heavy cream or half and half instead of milk which makes the potatoes so rich and creamy. It will remind you of the yummy mashed potatoes you get at a steakhouse!
Once you have everything ready, serve the Creamed Turkey on top of the mashed potatoes or off to the side - either way it is a delicious combination of comfort food! I hope you will give this one a try because it is too good to miss and really is Forkin' Good!
