Dutch Letter Bars

Easy to make bars that taste just like a Dutch Letter!

A good friend that I worked with many years ago made these bars all the time and brought them to work. I got the recipe from her in 2003 and let me tell you, if you are a lover of the famous Dutch Letter - a flaky pastry shaped like the letter "S" - you will love this super easy and delicious recipe.

Growing up in Iowa, the Dutch Letter was a special treat and one of my favorites. I didn't know a bar could be made to taste just as good until I got this recipe. I highly recommend you give this one a try!

How to Make Dutch Letter Bars

Preheat oven to 350°F. Prepare a 9x13 inch baking pan with nonstick cooking spray. In a large bowl, combine all ingredients and mix well. The dough will be very thick.

Spread the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan. Sprinkle the top with sugar. Bake for 30-40 minutes. Allow to cool completely before cutting in to bars. The top will be crisp and flakey and the center will be dense and chewy.

I used coarse sugar crystals on the top of the bars and it was delicious. You can also top with sugar and sliced almonds! Give this Forkin' Good Recipe a try!
