Peanut Butter Blossoms

Updated: Aug 19

Although the traditional combination of peanut butter and chocolate is fantastic, the peanut butter cookie recipe is just as delicious by itself! This delightful treat is guaranteed to satisfy a group of people!

Peanut Butter Blossoms

I have been making this recipe since 1985! The recipe came from a friend of my sister from another mister! I was young and learning how to cook and this was (and still is) one of my favorites! I continue make them every year at Christmas and top them with a Brach's Chocolate Stars, one of my mom's favorites! I love adding this cookie to my holiday cookie trays because it is a family favorite Christmas cookie!

While Hershey's Kisses are commonly used, I prefer breaking up a Hershey Bar to top the cookie, when it's not the holiday season, because the chocolate-to-peanut butter ratio is amazing!

What You Need

  • White Sugar

  • Brown Sugar

  • Butter, softened unsalted butter

  • Creamy Peanut Butter

  • Large Eggs, room temperature

  • Milk

  • Vanilla Extract

  • All Purpose Flour

  • Baking Soda

  • Hershey's Kisses, Hershey's Bars or Brach's Chocolate Stars

Tips for Making Peanut Butter Blossoms

  • My best advice is to stick to the recipe because you will have a delicious cookie that everyone will love

  • Top with your favorite chocolate - milk chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate or dark chocolate

  • Use a creamy no stir peanut butter; natural peanut butter will not work in this recipe

  • The cookie dough may be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator or freezer in an airtight container or freezer bag (if freezing, move to the refrigerator the night before baking so the dough may thaw)

How to Make Peanut Butter Blossoms

I've tried different chewy peanut butter cookies, but this one remains my favorite. This recipe is tried and true that comes together easily using simple ingredients!

Step 1: Heat oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.  In a large bowl, combine the flour soda and salt and set aside. Using a stand mixer with a paddle attachment or a large bowl using an electric mixer, blend the sugar, brown sugar, butter and creamy peanut butter until well combined.  Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing after each egg. Add the milk and vanilla and mix. Scrape down the side and the bottom of the bowl and mix again until fully combined.

Step 2: Slowly add the dry ingredients to the below and mix until completely combined.  Roll dough into 1-inch balls and roll in granulated sugar.

Step 3: Place the cookie dough balls on baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes. Immediately press the milk chocolate star (or chocolate of choice) in the center of each cookie. The cookies will be a golden brown. Allow the cookies to rest for a minute or so on the baking sheet, then move to a wire rack.

How to Store Peanut Butter Blossoms

Store the Peanut Butter Blossom cookies in single layer in an airtight container at room temperature for 3-5 days. Be sure and store in a cool place. If you refrigerate it may change the appearance of the chocolate on the cookie.

Give this chewy and soft peanut butter cookie a try for bake sales, potlucks, Christmas time, or personal consumption (my favorite!). It will surely become a Forkin' Good favorite at your house too!
