Pepper Steak

Updated: Apr 3, 2022

Tasty and colorful comfort food!

I have been making pepper steak this way for a really long time, so long that I don't remember where I got the recipe and over the years, I have adjusted to make it my own. My family has always enjoyed this dish and my adult daughters now make it at their homes, which warms my heart! It is quick to make after a day at work and will be ready in about an hour. This is easy comfort food!

How to Make Pepper Steak

Cut the round steak in to approximately 1/4 inch x 2 inch strips and put in your pan prepared with cooking spray. Add 1 teaspoon of steak seasoning to the meat. I used Gino's Steak Seasoning, which is readily available in Iowa, but your favorite steak seasoning will work. Brown the meat on medium heat.

Once the meat is brown, add in the petite cut tomatoes, tomato juice, and two (2) additional teaspoons of steak seasoning and stir to combine. Cover the pan with a lid and bring to a boil. While the mixture is coming to a boil, cut the pepper in to strips. Turn the heat to simmer, add in your green peppers, return the lid to the pan and continue to cook.

NOTE: any color of the bell pepper will work, but the bitterness of a green pepper gives this dish a really amazing flavor! Green, yellow, orange, or red bell peppers ... try one or all and see which one you like the best!

Allow the Pepper Steak to simmer for about 30 minutes, giving the round steak time to become tender. Remove from heat and immediately serve over prepared rice!

Note: If your steak isn't as tender as you like, try using a hammer-style meat tenderizer before cutting into strips. The textured side of the hammer will flatten the meat without damaging it. Pound the steak from one end to the other for best results.

I hope you will give this Forkin' Good Recipe a try for your family!
