Soft & Chewy M&M Party Cookies

This is a soft and chewy cookie, with crispy edges and packed with M&M's!

Soft & Chewy M&M Party Cookies

My favorite cookie is one that has delicious milk chocolate M&M's. I'm one of those weird people that like a chocolate chip cookie without the chocolate chips! When my husband makes his "family famous" chocolate chip cookie recipe (he does make the best chocolate chip cookies!), he always makes sure there are a few for me that don't have any chips! I think it's because I'm not a fan of semi-sweet nor dark chocolate; I'm a milk chocolate lover all the way!

This recipe came from my mother-in-law and she didn't make them a lot, but when she did make these amazing cookies, it was a good day!  The recipe uses simple ingredients that you likely have on hand!

The recipe does not include butter; instead, shortening is used as the secret ingredient. The shortening helps make a thicker cookie that rise higher, maintain a round shape, and prevent spreading. The amount of sugar in the recipe effectively masks the taste of the shortening.

What You Need

  • Light or Dark Brown Sugar

  • White Sugar

  • Shortening

  • Eggs

  • Vanilla Extract

  • All Purpose Flour

  • Baking Soda

  • Salt

  • M&M Plain Chocolate Candies

Tips for Making Soft and Chew M&M Party Cookies

  • I like to use the mini M&M in this cookie; the M&M to cookie ratio is perfect!

  • This recipe is perfect to use as your holiday cookie recipe by using seasonal M&M candies at Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Easter/Spring, Halloween/Fall and Christmas!

How to Make Soft and Chewy M&M Party Cookies

These cookies come together quickly and are delicious!

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 375°F.  Line baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside. In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt and mix together and set aside. In a large bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer using the paddle attachment, cream together the brown sugar, white sugar, eggs and vanilla extract (hand mixer may also be used).

Step 2: On low speed, slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until thoroughly combined.  Stir in the M&M Plain Chocolate Candies (measure with your heart, but keep some for decorating the top of the cookie!).

Step 3: Scoop dough by teaspoonfuls, use a medium cookie scoop, or shape into 1-inch dough balls and place on ungreased baking sheet. Top cookies with remaining M&M's as desired. Bake time is 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Allow the cookies to cool for 2 minutes on the baking sheet, then move to a cooling rack.

How to Store Soft and Chew M&M Party Cookies

This great cookie may be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for 3-4 days or you may securely cover the serving plate with plastic wrap.

You may flash freeze these homemade cookies. Simply freeze the cookie dough ball in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper until solid, then transfer to a freezer bag or airtight container for up to 3 months. Remember to date your freezer bag!
